I love Phil's coffee and Phil himself is great. But I haven't been going lately (been over a week). Phil does something to me practically every time I go that kind of bugs me. As you all know, it takes a couple of minutes to prepare a cup of his heavenly java. Just before he hands the coffee I ordered to me, Phil will pour or spoon some of my $2.50 large coffee on over to someone who has been waiting behind me, saying to them something like "Taste this" . My coffee, the cup that I consigned Phil to make for me and which I alone will pay for.
I know it's a little thing, but if you go to Big Mouth, Abraham doesn't give anyone else a couple of your fries or bite of your burger. If you get a cone at Mitchell's, it's not passed around so as others can have a lick.
I know this has happened to one of my close friends once if not twice. Has any other other Phil's drinker experienced anything like this?
Fuck it. I'm going to Phil's now...

Re: a phil's situation
Mon, April 11, 2005 - 4:10 PMPhil usually takes a little birdie sip out my coffee, but I chock this up to quality control. Perhaps the person in line behind you also shares an evolved tasting palate and Phil is simply trying to save his own taste buds from total burn-out? Just a guess.

Phil spooning
Mon, April 11, 2005 - 8:26 PMJeremy
My thoughts are that this action of "spooning" is actually a gesture of friendship/intimacy which you and I should be very proud of.
Also, we, as Amerikkkans, cannot neccessarily judge the actions those from different cultures/countries soley based on conceptual programming/habits.( sorry, cannot remember the concise terminolgy about the various layers of brain tissue at this moment)
So, I reccommend that you go have that good coffee, spoons or no spoons, and tell Phil "shoukran, habibe" and give him a kiss left cheek, right cheek and then left cheek again.

now everyone wants a sip...
Tue, April 12, 2005 - 12:37 AMIt's fair to say that my reaction might be one based on a cultural bias. It would be fair to say that. However, this is not the case.
As like as not, Phil (who is a good guy, as I've said) is a bit of a control freak who enjoys twisting his customers noses a bit. My question was, has anyone else experienced this particular Phil's Situation? -

Re: now everyone wants a sip...
Fri, April 22, 2005 - 1:49 PMIf I'm making a drink for someone that I'm not too confident of, I'll take a strawful to taste, though I probably wouldn't give it to another customer. But you're talking about what, a spoonful?
I can't remember, but if he's using a tablespoon sized spoon, he owes you 7.8 cents each time. If it's teaspoon size, he owes you 2.6 cents. Take it out of his tip.
Hasn't happened to me yet. -
